Following the inauguration of “Little India Gate” in Medan on 28/10 by Mayor of Medan, Mr Dzulmi Eldin, an Indian Culture Week in Medan will commence on 02 Nov 2018 to 10th November 2018. There will be a range of programs to bring India culture to Indonesians especially Medan citizen. This was announced by Ms Shalia Shah, Consulate General of India during Press Conference at her residence on 01/11.
There are quite a number of Indian population in Medan that has strong ties of history, as reflected in on of the oldest Hindu temples of North Sumatra, Sri Mariamman Temple which is located at Kampung Madras; one of the city’s significant ethnic enclaves comprising a large population of people of Indian descent whose ancestors had settled down in Medan in mid-nineteenth century.
